With Christmas approaching, Hampshire County Council has shared health advice for the festive season.
The council's guidance urges residents to use NHS 111 or local pharmacies for non-urgent medical help.
People are also advised to keep their homes heated to at least 18°C (65°F) to prevent health issues, especially for the vulnerable.
All 40 Hampshire libraries are recognised as warm and welcome spaces.
The council encourages eligible residents to ensure their vaccinations for COVID-19, flu, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) are up to date.
These viruses can cause severe illnesses during the winter months.
Residents are also advised to check their prescriptions and have enough medicine to last through the holiday period when services are reduced.
The council also notes an increase in coughs, colds, and seasonal illnesses among children and offers the Healthier Together website and app for advice.
Residents are reminded of the importance of maintaining positive mental health, with recommendations to follow the Five Ways to Wellbeing.
For additional mental health support, people can visit Mental Wellbeing Hampshire.
Councillor Russell Oppenheimer, the county council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: "This time of year can be challenging for some, especially older residents or those with health conditions. With the cold weather and holiday closures, accessing the services you need can be tricky.
"Therefore, I would encourage residents to follow Public Health advice and plan ahead to minimise any holiday disruptions and make sure that you and your loved ones stay safe and well this Christmas and New Year."
The council also reminds residents that the national booking system for flu and COVID-19 vaccinations will close on December 20.
After this date, eligible residents can contact their GP practice or community pharmacy to book an appointment.
The 119 telephone service will remain available for queries and signposting until January 31, 2025.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight COVID vaccination helpline remains operational for support and advice on vaccinations.
It is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and on weekends from 9am to 1pm.
