A charity has launched a campaign to help young people with learning disabilities transition into adulthood more smoothly.
Minstead Trust, which supports over 320 people with learning disabilities across the south, launched its 'Kick Start My Life' appeal on Monday, December 3.
The campaign, which is part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge, aims to raise £36,000 for the Trust's programmes, with all donations made until December 10 at midday being doubled.
The charity hopes the money will help young people with learning disabilities who struggle to find work, build independence, and create structure in their lives after leaving education.
The appeal aims to provide a pathway to success, offering personalised guidance, supported volunteering opportunities, group activities, and practical help with everyday tasks.
Helen, who is supported by Minstead Trust and is employed as a café assistant at The View—a café run by Minstead Trust said: "I just didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. My anxiety and confidence went down cause when I went to work it was very stressful and different to sitting in a classroom."
For those seeking employment, Minstead Trust's work programmes aim to equip young people with the necessary skills and confidence.
The appeal also includes activity programmes where young people can make friends, discuss important issues, and share experiences, helping them build a support network as they transition into adulthood.
A spokesperson for Minstead Trust said: "The 'Kick Start My Life' appeal is a crucial part of Minstead Trust’s commitment to helping young people unlock their full potential.
"By providing the right guidance and tools, Minstead Trust aims to offer young adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to lead independent, fulfilling lives, free from isolation."
