The Mediaeval Baebes' Christmas concert in Truro will kick off with a traditional torchlit procession.

Taking place on December 11, it will begin at 6.55pm with the 'Lighting of the Chalice' ceremony.

It will take place at The Library in Pydar Street, before the procession makes its way to Truro Cathedral, offering a blend of song, dance, and pageantry.

The chalice, central to many historic customs, signifies connection and community, fostering unity and shared experiences among concertgoers.

The evening will unfold in the Cathedral, promising a delightful array of festive music and entertainment.

Audiences can anticipate a celebration of Christmas spirit as the Mediaeval Baebes perform well-known carols, traditional folk songs, and tracks from their latest seasonal album, MydWynter.

The concert will also feature storytelling that unveils the origins and folklore entwined in the lyrics, as well as innovative adaptations of ancient and romantic poetry.

It will conclude with the Mediaeval Baebes showcasing their new compositions.

The Mediaeval Baebes, a prominent name in Europe's early music and folk scene, have a rich history of musical achievements.

With 11 studio albums to their name, this female-led ensemble has garnered accolades such as an Ivor Novella Award for their performance in the BBC serialization The Virgin Queen.

They have also bagged two Emmy nominations and a Royal Television Society award for their collaboration with composer Martin Phipps, creating the TV theme tune for ITV’s hit show Victoria.

Their 2023 collaboration with Orbital on Ringa Ringa climbed to number six on the album charts, and they also featured in The Wellermen’s Explorations remix album, a TikTok lockdown sensation.
