According to SSE, the issue has now been resolved.

The road seems to have reopened. 

2:09pm

An SSE engineer is onsite to restore the power after the cable toppled.

The problem is expected to be resolved by 5pm tonight. 

The partial road closure remains in place at this time.

Staff at Pickwell Farm told or reporter they have been "quieter than normal".

They believe this is partly due to the road closure, but also the weather.

However, they still have power despite the outage.

Power outage

The fallen cable has caused a power outage in the area, according to SSE.

Affected businesses include The Plough pub and Pickwell Farm.

SSE said they hope to restore power by 5pm tonight and an engineer is en route to the scene.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called to this at 10.38am and are providing assistance with road closures."

The force is joined by firefighters.

It is not yet known how long the road will be closed for.

Diverted traffic

If you're travelling westbound on Portsmouth Road (coming from the direction of Tesco Bursledon) you will be diverted down Grange Road.

There is no access for those travelling in the other direction either.

Our reporter says two police officers are directing traffic, and there is one police car and fire engine on the scene.

A section of Portsmouth Road - from the Grange Road junction heading towards Sholing - is shut.

A power cable fell and has blocked the road.
