Silverlake
Sustainability and environmental responsibility have been at the heart of Silverlake’s operations in Hampshire for over seven decades. As the business has grown, so too have the environmental gains with the company leading the way in eco-friendly automotive recycling, reducing the number of cars going to landfill, embracing the circular economy and carbon reduction through its supply of reclaimed vehicle parts and contributing significantly to national and regional Net Zero targets.
Silverlake’s facility and business practices harness every opportunity to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability, from its solar powered lighting illuminating offices and workshops, rain water harvesting powering hygiene facilities and recycled packaging used in the delivery of its products.
Unmatched Environmental Impact
Through its Authorised Treatment Facility, Silverlake already recycles 96.7% of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), providing reusable parts that reduce the demand for new manufacturing. Each part reclaimed saves raw materials, minimises waste, and overall prevents tens of thousands of tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Supporting the Circular Economy
Silverlake’s expansion is designed to improve the sustainability of ELV processing by incorporating a state-of-the-art dismantling facility. This will support the increasing demand for green parts, allowing Silverlake to recover and store over 250,000 parts and make them available with huge savings, compared to buying new parts. This will help motorists to keep their cars on the road safely and cost effectively, hugely supporting the circular economy through the re-use of existing materials and resources and helping to achieve Net Zero ahead of time.
The expanded facility will include a new Research & Development centre which will drive innovation around part reusability, recycling, and green technology, educating the Hampshire community and securing Silverlake’s role in a sustainable future.
Boosting Local Economy and Green Jobs
Silverlake’s commitment to sustainability extends to economic and social benefits for Hampshire. Employing local talent, Silverlake supports skilled green jobs and generates economic growth within the community. The expansion project will create even more opportunities, contributing to the local economy’s resilience while fostering expertise in green vehicle recycling processes.
A Partner for Sustainable Development
By collaborating with local charities, businesses, and educational institutions, Silverlake has cultivated partnerships that prioritise community welfare and environmental awareness. This involvement demonstrates that sustainable business goes beyond profits, benefitting communities and preserving resources for future generations.
Looking to a Sustainable Future
Silverlake is pioneering sustainable practices in the automotive recycling sector. The proposed expansion will enable the business to increase the number of vehicles it recycles each year to circa 40,000, an uplift of 10,000, and enable essential industry advancements to cater for the growing numbers of current and alternatively fueled vehicles on Hampshire’s roads. The expansion will deliver even greater carbon reduction opportunities, increase the green parts on offer to consumers, and contribute towards achieving Net Zero. With the additional creation of more local partnerships, 60+ new jobs, and community investments, Silverlake will help drive environmental progress, strengthen Hampshire’s green economy and contribute to the promise of a cleaner, greener future.
