Chandler's Ford born star Kai Widdrington has become the first Strictly Come Dancing dancer to be partnered with a drag artist.

The professional dancer, who went to Toynbee School, has become a part of history after being partnered with the first drag queen in the show’s tenure.

His partner, known as Tayce on stage, was a runner-up in the second series of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, and will appear alongside Widdrington on the Christmas Special of the show.

The pair will dance to A Hundred Degrees by Kylie Minogue.

Tayce, whose full name is Tayce Szura-Radix, broke the news on It Takes Two on November 12, telling host Fleur East that she will “bring the electric, the drama, the je-ne-sais-quoi, the passion and the fashion.”

The Welsh radio presenter and model went on to say: “I’ve honestly got most of the routine down already, so buckle up princess because it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”

Tayce was visibly excited about the announcement, saying: “I cannot wait to ‘sleigh’ on the Strictly Ballroom floor. My partner and I are going to dance for our lives.”

The Christmas Special will feature celebrity couples performing for the show’s judging panel of Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Shirley Ballas – as well as a voting studio audience.

The results will be a combination of judges’ scores and audience votes, with the winner taking home the Strictly Silver Star trophy.

Despite this being the first time a drag queen has been featured on Strictly, Ru Paul's Drag Race judge Michelle Visage was a contestant on the 2019 season of the show, being partnered with Giovanni Pernice.

Hampshire’s Kai Widdrington has been a professional dancer on the show since 2021, where he reached the final alongside Aj Odudu, before she medically withdrew from the competition.

He has also won a Christmas Strictly Special before, in 2022, and will be hoping for a repeat of that success.

Other celebrities who will feature on the Christmas Special are The Last Leg star Josh Widdicombe, who was the first to be announced as Karen Hauer’s partner.
