A man was rushed to hospital after being found with a suspected stab wound to his neck on Sunday morning.
The man, aged in his 20s, was found with the injury by two members of the public on Portswood Road, just after 5am on Sunday morning.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Now, Hampshire Constabulary has launched an investigation and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Officers investigating this incident believe that there were a number of people walking and driving through the Portswood Road area in the early hours of Sunday morning who may have seen or encountered the victim.

They added: "If you were in the area between 4am and 5am and saw or spoke to a man with a serious injury to his neck, we are keen to hear from you.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who was driving through Portswood Road at this time and has dash cam footage which may have captured the victim."
A spokesperson said that they believe it was an isolated incident involving people known to each other.
It marks the second stabbing in Southampton in two weekends, after a man in his 40s was injured after an altercation on Victoria Road, Woolston on October 26.
An 18-year-old man was also seriously injured after a stabbing in Fair Oak on Halloween.
Portswood ward councillor Katherine Barbour said that she was "shocked" by the incident.
Cllr Barbour, who represents the Green Party, said: "Events like these in our local neighbourhood are very rare and I'm shocked and very sad that this has happened.
"Clearly there needs to be a prioritisation of work in this area by the local police force, and they need to have the resources to enable them to be able to follow up those issues that are happening in our city now.
"There’s a real need for the resources to be there, and unfortunately they are really struggling to do investigations and the work they need to be doing.
"I think that’s more of a national issue than a local [issue] at the moment."
