A popular cruise ship that regularly docks in Southampton has been named among the top  dirtiest cruise ships in the world this year.

US based Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed the world's filthiest cruise ships through its random inspections completed in 2024.

The Echo has compiled a list of the 11 cruise liners that most frequently come to Southampton based on their CDC hygiene ranking.

All ships are given a rating out of 100 and receiving a score of 85 or less is considered a failure by the CDC.

Caribbean Princess has been rated 86 after a random inspection on March 20, making it the eighth dirtiest cruise of those vessels ranked in 2024.

Some of the hygiene violations picked up in the report included: "At least six previously cleaned bowls were soiled.

"The entire rack with bowls was sent to be rewashed.

"A box of chopsticks was stored directly on the deck.

"There was a crawling insect next to the box."

All of the vessels below have been rated in 2023 or 2024, with the exception of P&O's Britannia, which was last rated in 2016.

Southampton cruise ships ranked on cleanliness

Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas and Celebrity Cruise's Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Silhouette were all given a score of 98.

Norwegian Prima was given a rating of 97, while Arcadia, Britannia and Sky Princess were all rated 95 by the CDC.

Regal Princess and Cunard's Queen Mary 2 were both given scores of 91 while Aurora was rated 89.

As previously mentioned Caribbean Princess has been rated 86, dropping 10 places from its previous rating in July of 2023.

The inspection comes after P&O’s Ventura saw an out break of Norovirus in May with more than 500 suffering from the virus, with the CDC reporting 10 viral outbreaks on cruise ships in 2024.
