A farm shop is helping a secondary school reduce food miles in its canteen.

Westlands Farm Shop, near Wickham, has partnered with Cams Hill Secondary School in Fareham to supply locally sourced and high-quality meat and produce for the school's canteen.

The shop, located just a few miles from the school, provides fresh lamb and beef from its own farm in the Meon Valley.

It also delivers chicken, pork and eggs on behalf of its network of local farmers.

The collaboration offers students wholesome meals that support both their health and the environment.

The school canteen now features meat products that are carefully reared in Hampshire and surrounding areas, alongside fresh seasonal vegetables and eggs.

Westlands Farm Shop said it is proud to contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the canteen.

Seventy per cent of the shop’s suppliers are located within a 40-mile radius of the family-run farm in Wickham, which has been operating since 2001.

The head butcher at Westlands Farm Shop, Suzi Howard, recently attended an open evening at the school to talk to students and parents about the importance of supporting British farmers.

Suzi said: "Knowing where your food comes from is key to making sustainable choices.

"It’s fantastic to see schools like Cams Hill embracing this approach, and I’m excited about the difference we can make together for the future of British agriculture.

"By working with local farmers, we’re not only providing better quality food for the next generation but also strengthening our local food network."
