Crews from Eastleigh, Fordingbridge, Ringwood, Dorset and Wiltshire all responded.
They used plant machinery to turn over the burning waste as they battled the fire.
Firefighters also communicated with residents to update and reassure them.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
At 9am today, a fire service spokesperson said: "We are still onsite, but with a reduced presence.
"Crews are damping down to reduce the spread of the fire.
"We anticipate that crews remain onsite for most of the day."
The company behind the waste centre, Veolia, has issued a statement on the waste centre fire.
A Veolia spokesperson said: "We can confirm that there was a surface fire in the tipping area at the Blue Haze Landfill site on the evening of 30th September.
"The emergency services were quickly present on the site and the fire has been extinguished.
"The site will remain closed for today and we are conducting a full investigation into the cause of the fire. Operations are due to restart tomorrow."
