Demolition work has started at a Southampton pub to make way for new homes - years after getting the green light to knock it down.
Permission to demolish the Shield and Dagger in Stratton Road, Shirley, was granted in October 2022 after the pub was vacated by its owners in 2016.
The Shield and Dagger had its licence suspended after police said its management was linked to “serious criminal offences".
New photos taken from the site of the former pub show the building fenced off, with a warning sign stating: “Danger, demolition work in progress.”

It’s believed that demolition work began on Thursday, September 12, with the front of the building almost entirely reduced to rubble.
Green City Homes is set to build new homes on the land.
A statement submitted by PWP Architects to the city council’s planning department said amendments have been made to the layout of the houses after “miscalculations” were identified earlier in the year.
