A resident has slammed a council which has taken weeks to remove fly-tipped rubbish which blocked him from using his driveway.

Steve Bryant says the dumped goods, including a fridge and sofa, have stopped him from using his driveway since they appeared on the pavement outside his home on August 22.

He has slammed New Forest District Council for taking more than two weeks to remove the rubbish.

The council confirmed to the Echo they went to the Hythe road on Wednesday to clear the mess - the day after this newspaper approached the authority.

Steve said that fly-tipping is a common issue in the area and those on Cedar Road are aware of some serial fly-tippers who use the street as a ‘dumping ground’.

The rubbish was reported to the New Forest District Council on the day it first appeared, and the Hythe resident of six years said he expected it to be cleared in a few days.

(Image: NQ) The 33-year-old told the Echo: “I expected the council to get it shifted in a day or two but in the more than two weeks I have now had to call the council five times.

“It wouldn’t be so much of an issue but it is blocking access to my driveway.

“Over the five times I have called, it feels like the council have fobbed me off at every opportunity.”

The lorry driver said that he had been given a number of excuses by staff over the phone including lack of resources, underfunding and that three council vans had broken down.

(Image: NQ) He continued: “Even with three broken down vans, surely in more than two weeks someone could have taken this away?

“I don’t see why I should have to suffer because someone else has fly-tipped just outside my door.

“It’s got to a point where it’s just so frustrating. I shouldn’t have to pester the council to get the rubbish removed."

In response to Steve’s complaints, a spokesperson for the New Forest District Council told the Echo: “Our Streetscene team are attending the fly tip at Hythe today.”

It is understood that the rubbish was collected by the council on Wednesday, September 11.
