The death of a woman whose body was discovered in Owelsebury is no longer being treated as suspicious.

Officers were called to Lower Baybridge Lane on Tuesday, September 3, after the body of a woman in her 30s was discovered.

Officers launched an investigation into the death of the woman, with the initial belief that the death might have been the result of a 'homicide'.

However, a police spokesperson has said that the incident is no longer being treated as suspicious following a post-mortem on the body yesterday (Friday, September 6).

The spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.51pm on Tuesday, September 3 after the body of a woman in her 30s was found near to Whaddon Lane, Owslebury.

“Due to the initial circumstances, we started investigating this as a possible homicide.

“This decision was made to ensure the highest standards of evidence gathering were undertaken in order to establish the cause of her death, but officers have been keeping an open mind throughout our enquiries.

“Yesterday (Friday 6 September), a post-mortem examination was undertaken and we can now confirm her death is no longer being treated as suspicious.”

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Gillooly, who led the investigation, said: "We completely understand the concerns you may have had upon seeing the news that her death was being investigated as a possible homicide.

"I want to reassure you that, following the examination yesterday, we are confident this is no longer the case.

"Our initial policing response to this has been robust, and that may have worried some people in the community, but this was the right decision to ensure we conducted the most thorough investigation.

“I want to thank everyone who contacted us with information, CCTV and dash cam footage which have all helped us create a clearer picture of what happened.

“Most of all I want to thank the family for all their help in our enquiries.

“On behalf of the family, I would like to ask that the media respect their privacy.

“They will continue to be supported by specialist officers as a file is prepared for the coroner.”

The woman has been yet to be formally identified.
