People living near an Asda supermarket car park have hit out at new floodlights that illuminate the night sky.
Fury has erupted over the Asda on Bournemouth Road, Chandler's Ford, after the new lights were installed as part of a refurbishment.
The lights are so bright they can be seen in the sky from around a mile away, with some worried about their effect on wildlife - and on drivers on the roads.
A Southampton resident, who did not want to be named, told the Echo she’s “never seen anything so bad”.
She said: “Now the dark evenings are here it’s become very apparent that these lights are way too bright.
“Driving from Southampton to Chandlers Ford, as I do most evenings to care for my elderly mother it is very dangerous as the light’s blind motorists on an already unlit and dangerous road.
“We appreciate Asda need to light their car park but it's not Wembley Stadium and if they just angled the lights slightly better - it would resolve the problem.”

She added: “I've never seen anything so bad and even nearby houses are complaining as it's too intrusive to them at night.”
Another resident said he could see the light at home in Northdene Road, nearly a mile away from the store.
Another person added: “I hate light pollution, you can’t see the stars and it upsets the bird population.”
On a social media post one person encouraged others to report the lights to Eastleigh Borough Council.
He said: "It would help if others who feel strongly about this also raise a light pollution complaint with EBC.
"Last night's glow was the worst yet given the low cloud. The photo is from our front door in Keble Road."
In a statement, a spokesperson for Asda said: “We can confirm a team of engineers have been contacted to look into this and make any necessary changes."
In August, the Asda store had its foyer redesigned, along with new seasonal aisles, new-look counters, and new look flooring and lighting.
