A multi-million-pound leisure centre believed to be one of the largest in Southampton will welcome members for the first time this month.
Opened by the University of Southampton, the Jubilee Sport and Recreation Centre will be available to the public as well as students.
Boasting squash courts, fitness and cycle studios, and a bouldering wall, the £40m centre is designed with inclusivity at its core, the university said.
University of Southampton president and vice-chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith, said: “Today marks a significant milestone for our university as we proudly open the doors to the extension of the Jubilee Sport and Recreation Centre.
“This facility represents our unwavering commitment to fostering excellence in both academics and athletics.
“It’s a space where our students, staff, and the wider academic community can come together to pursue their passions, challenge their limits, and build a healthier future.
“I believe that this investment in Southampton Sport will not only enhance the university experience but also inspire the next generation of leaders - both on and off the field.”

The centre is home to a “cutting-edge” fitness suite featuring 200-plus stations and the latest adaptive sport equipment, ensuring people of all abilities can train and compete.
The expansion at the university’s Highfield campus also includes three new squash courts, four new fitness studios, and a Technogym indoor cycling studio featuring the latest bikes and interactive training sessions.
The dedicated climbing and bouldering wall can be used for climbers of all skill levels.
According to the university, the centre will be used by schools and will continue to host community leagues, fitness classes and wellness programs.
Paralympian and University of Southampton alumni Adam Knott will visit the centre for a plaque unveiling ceremony on September 18.
Adam represented Great Britain in Goalball for more than six years in numerous competitions, including the Paralympic Games and the European Championships.
The current Jubilee centre, including the six-lane swimming pool, will be accessed via the new entrance and all areas will remain open and available for members to use.
