A popular Starbucks store could welcome a drive-through if plans are given the green light.

Developers want to extend the existing coffee shop in Hedge End by replacing the former adjoining Carphone Warehouse unit.

The proposed drive-through lane would be able to accommodate 12 cars.

It would also be designed to avoid queuing onto the access road of Hedge End Retail Park.

Developers said: “The drive-through lane would extend clockwise around the eastern side of the building.

“To collect their order, vehicles would then enter the covered area, to the south of the building, to the collection window.

“Vehicles exiting the drive-through lane will emerge in to the first car parking aisle, which will connect them back to the main car park access road on to the westbound carriageway of Charles Watts Way.”

They added: “Drive-through facilities at coffee shops are becoming increasingly common, and it is necessary for the existing coffee-shop to modernise in order to meet increasing customer demands.”

But the addition of the drive-through would see the loss of eight existing car park spaces.

The proposals also include changes to the inside of the coffee shop, with developers keen for Starbucks to use the northern side of the building which remains empty.

A decision will be made by Eastleigh Borough Council on September 27.

Starbucks at Hedge End Retail Park has been open to customers since 2014.
