A Hampshire pub hosted a star of stage and screen last week.
Actor and composer Simon Slater, best known for playing Ross Faber in the hit BBC TV show Holby City and starring in Mamma Mia in the West End, stayed at Duke on The Test in Romsey while working on the summer youth project production of Bugsy Malone at Mayflower Theatre.
Simon, 62, was musical supervisor and sound director on the popular comedy musical, which starred more than 150 talented young people from Southampton and beyond.

He said: “Staying at The Duke on The Test was a wonderful experience. John and his staff have been so kind and accommodating and I can’t praise them highly enough. I had a great meal and now know why it’s so popular! I can’t wait to come back.”
Simon is pictured with general manager John Ellis at the riverside pub on Greatbridge Road.
