Enjoy family-friendly festivals, falconry and other fun with lots of summer activities taking place in and around Southampton this weekend.

Here's our five top tips for things to do to keep all the family entertained on Saturday and Sunday.

At Mayflower Theatre...

Support young people from the community in the Mayflower Summer Youth Project this weekend.

It's the culmination of all the hard work of 162 young cast members, three young production arts participants and seven young filmmaker participants and will be performed on Saturday.

The joyous and uplifting comedy musical is based on the classic Alan Parker movie and is filled with the songs Fat Sam’s Grand Slam, My Name is Tallulah, and You Give a Little Love.

Two gangs square off in a 1920s rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has gotten the upper hand since obtaining the 'splurge' gun. Now, Fat Sam and his bumbling buffoons are in real trouble! Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust not-so-willingly into the limelight when he becomes the last chance that Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love, Blousey, but that just isn’t in the cards for our hero.

It's a return for a 12th year of the fabulous Phoneyfest, a whole weekend of entertainment from the very best tribute acts on the scene who take centre stage at the four-day event.

Kicking off last night with the brilliant Rob Lamberti, who perfectly apes George Michael, the event welcome over 50 different tribute acts to three stages each day until Sunday.

From P!nk to Robbie, Dolly Parton to Jersey Boys, Tom Jones to Rod Stewart, Ellie Goulding to Queen... Phoneyfest has it all and more!

Aboard Steamship Shieldhall...

Take to the high seas on Saturday on the Shieldhall cruise to The Needles, passing the New Forest Coast and the Isle of Wight between 10.30am and 6pm.

Cruise down Southampton Water to the Solent, then head west along the New Forest Coast, travelling out beyond Hurst Castle and the Needles Passage to the Needles themselves, one of the most photographed and iconic coastal locations in the UK.

On her return to Port Shieldhall  will pass the cruise ship Iona – always the chance to sound her whistle and play the Shieldhall Organ! 

At Exbury Gardens...

It's falconry day at Exbury Gardens on Saturday.

Flying displays will be held at 11:30am and 1:30pm by South Wilts Falconry. Entry is free with gardens’ admission.

It's also the last chance to see the Look Twice artists' exhibition, which runs until Sunday. The ten artists draw their inspiration from the New Forest, local beaches and harbours, as well as well-known landmarks including our very own Exbury Gardens. 

One of the south’s best loved ‘horti family attractions, Exbury has a packed events programme this summer for visitors to enjoy, as well as 200 acres of beautiful gardens to explore.

Around Southampton...

Continue finding lighthouses on the streets of Southampton and Cowes. 

Forty 8ft decorated lighthouses are part of a large scale free family-friendly art trail, which runs until September.

Plus, there are another 40 'little lights', designed by local schools and community groups, which make up Light the South.

It's all part of the latest public art trail to grace the streets of Southampton, aiming to shine a light on and raise money for Southampton Children's Hospital.
