Motorists have been warned about several overnight closures on the M27 in Hampshire starting tonight.

These closures are part of a major resurfacing project to replace the concrete section of teh M27 between junctions 5 and 7.

The National Highways team is nearly done with the first phase of work, which involved a significant central reservation update, including a new concrete barrier and drainage repairs for improved safety.

Starting today, the focus will shift to overlaying lanes three and four of the eastbound carriageway with low-noise asphalt.

To facilitate the new contraflow layout, the M27 must be closed overnight from 9pm to 6am on a number of dates.

These include August 5, where the motorway will be closed westbound from junction nine to junction eight.

On August 6 and 7, the closure will affect the westbound carriageway from junction eight to junction four, while August 8 and 9 will see the closure eastbound from junction four to junction seven.

Further closures on the junction five and seven eastbound entry slip roads are expected from August 12 to September 16.

From August 9, a contraflow layout will be active within the roadworks.

This means motorists will be able to continue their journey on the opposite carriageway.

At least three lanes in each direction will be maintained during the daytime, although occasional lane or full overnight closures will be enforced.

Drivers are reminded to plan their journeys accordingly, as only vehicles travelling along the eastbound contraflow in lanes one and two will be able to exit at junctions five, seven, and eight.

Anyone in the third lane will continue towards junction nine, bypassing these previous junctions.
