Councillor Karen Lucioni has been announced as the new Chairman of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel.
A member of the Isle of Wight’s Alliance Group, Lucioni represents Ryde Monktonmead, with her new role including scrutinising and supporting the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Donna Jones.
Jones was re-elected in May to oversee policing and criminal justice across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
While the PCC is held accountable by the electorate, the PCP reviews Jones’s actions and decisions.
At the recent meeting, the panel also confirmed the appointment of a new Vice Chairman, East Hampshire District Council Councillor Phillip Davies.
Three additional appointments were made for newly created local authority Co-opted Member roles.
They ensure the panel more deeply reflects the political landscape from within its police area.
These roles were taken up by Councillors Luigi Gregori, Simon Minas-Bound, and Gwen Robinson.
Deputy Councillor David Podger stands in for Gregori.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel comprises representatives from every local authority in the respective police areas, including Portsmouth, Southampton, the Isle of Wight, the 11 Hampshire Borough and District councils, and Hampshire County Council.
The panel comprises two non-political members to enrich the collective knowledge and experience. In making these appointments, the panel is stronger in its representation and prepared to continue its crucial work.
Commenting on her appointment, Councillor Lucioni said: "I’m delighted to take up the position of PCP Chairman to further support the panel’s important work in scrutinising and supporting the Police and Crime Commissioner.
"I’m proud to be independent, which allows me to work across political parties to ensure views from all areas of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are represented through the work of this panel."
