A woman arrested after a house fire in Southampton remains under investigation as police enquiries continue.

A police cordon was in place for more than 24 hours after flames ripped through a property in Richmond Road, Freemantle, in April.

Visible fire and smoke damage could be seen on the upper section of the building, with police tape across the main gate.

A 62-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after the blaze.

Police later confirmed that she had been bailed as part of the investigation.

Issuing an update, a police spokesperson told the Daily Echo: "The woman remains under investigation while our enquiries continue."

As reported, firefighters used four fire engines and one aerial ladder platform to extinguish the blaze after being called to the scene just before 3pm. Police attended around an hour later.

Firefighters also used fans to minimise smoke damage and prevent the flames from spreading.
