Hundreds flock to Netley Marsh Steam Show 2024 - in pictures

The show was first launched in 1971 to raise funds for the urgent repairs to St Matthew's church on Ringwood Road.

Following the success of that aim and the general enjoyment of those attending the show, it was decided that this should be an annual event – with any profits being donated to charity.

Last year the show, raised more than £35,000 in total to different charities.

Will Cornwell, 25, part of the event organising team said the show’s range of offerings is what brings people back every year.

He said: “I think many people like old things. Anything old. You can see a steam engine working. You can see everything moving and the smells, you can hear the power.

"The motorcycles you don’t see anything like it now. Even the old lorries people just love to reminisce on the old times I think that’s why people like to come see this.

“The show hasn’t changed in the last 50 or so years, and people love that about the show, someone commented on a Facebook post that it’s like going from home to home."

He added: “We have the models, the preservation area, the large crafts and food stalls. You name it and we’ve got it here.

"We have got something for everyone, that’s why we call it a family day out, something for everyone.”

John Ambler, 67, travelled from the Isle of Wight for the show.

He said: “Everything you’ve got, from tractors to motorbikes to woodcut. The variety of everything it’s just great.

“There is something for everyone. It’s really good that they have it for everyone.”

Paulo Atyeo, 47, who came with her husband Stuart and her son Michael, from Verwood said she first came last year and fell in love with the range of activities which offer something for the whole family.

She said: “I came for the first time last year and we camped for four nights and it was brilliant.

“Friends of ours had been before and then we found out that they went camping so we all decided to come as a group. This is our second year coming as a group.

“It’s just brilliant, it’s so well organised and there is so much to see for everybody and there is so much space.

"You don’t feel like it’s overcrowded and there are not massive queues so you can go do a bit of everything which is really nice.”
