Age Concern Hampshire is set to launch new community groups, bolstering its commitment to wellbeing initiatives.
This comes following funding from housing association Sovereign Network Group (SNG), who are partnering with the charity as ambassadors and match funders for the Hampshire Active Health Programme.
The drive will see the creation of groups for residents of SNG accommodation in Overton, Whitchurch, Brookvale and Brighton Hill in Basingstoke. They will run parallel to existing social groups in areas such as South Ham and Winklebury.
Each community group offers an assortment of weekly activities, including games, presentations and social interactions, all aimed at stimulating the mind and body.
The initiative promotes a healthy, active lifestyle known to be beneficial for brain health, especially when physical, mental, and social elements are combined.
Kim Stone, community engagement officer at Age Concern Hampshire said: "Our weekly social groups provide a lifeline for many people living alone. They offer a regular opportunity to socialise and participate in a variety of fun and interesting activities, which are crucial for maintaining both physical and mental health. To continue and expand this vital support, we need dedicated volunteers to join us in making a positive impact on our community."
The charity is appealing for volunteers to aid these community social groups. Those interested in contributing to communities in the mentioned areas can get in touch on 01962 868545 or visit their website.
