Around 700 kilograms of suspected cocaine was seized from a boat at the River Itchen, police have said.

Organised crime officers worked with Hampshire Police in the raid on Monday morning.

A 29-year-old man from Solihull has now been charged with being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of prohibition on the importation of a class A drug and possession with the intent to supply a class A drug, namely cocaine.

Reiss Stanley, of Gaydon Road, Solihull, was charged on Tuesday and has been remanded in custody.

He will next appear in Southampton Crown Court on August 8.

A rigid inflatable boat (RIB) was also seized, and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) said it is in relation to a van being stopped in Priory Road.

Police descended on a private mooring on the River Itchen, near Horseshoe Bridge, on Monday morning at around 8am after rpeorts of suspicious activity.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabular previously told the Echo: "We were called at 8.04am this morning, Monday, July 8, to a report of suspicious activity taking place at a private mooring on Priory Road in Southampton.

"Officers attended and seized a large quantity of suspected Class A drugs from a boat at the location.
