Firefighters in Hampshire have spent a second night tackling a massive blaze involving around 3,000 tonnes of scrap metal.

Around 40 firefighters have been at the scene of the large fire since at a scrapyard in Petersfield at around 12.30pm on Monday, July 1

Crews were faced with a well-lit fire by the time they arrived at the incident on Greenway Lane in Buriton, Petersfield.

The crews have now been battling the blaze for more than two days.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters have worked throughout yesterday and last night with the fire now contained.

"Road closures are starting to be lifted with one lane now reopened."

Using onsite machinery, firefighters have been separating the metal to create fire breaks to limit the spread of the blaze.
