The closure runs between the B3039, Saltmarsh Road, and Manor Road South.
AA Traffic is reporting that the incident in question is a crash.
Hampshire police has been approached for more information.
The Itchen Bridge remains closed, with emergency service vehicles stationed at either end and traffic being diverted.
The bridge appears to have been closed, with no traffic passing over.
Traffic is coping well as fortunately it is not too busy on the bridge at this time of the day.
It appears that someone is moved into the back of the van.
At the scene are currently a police sprinter van an ambulance and a police car.
