Plans to carry out major repairs to a crumbling Hampshire school with more than 2,000 pupils have been unveiled.
Kier Construction is seeking consent to refurbish Bay House School and Sixth Form in Gomer Lane, Gosport, by restoring heavily eroded stonework and repairing faulty windows.
It is also planning to replace "unserviceable" windows and doors as well as install new electrical fittings.
A design and access statement that accompanies the application says: "The current school was built in 1838 and requires significant structural work and internal refurbishment.
"Whilst the buildings were developed originally for school use, education and the way pupils are taught has significantly changed.
"The layout and spaces are no longer suitable for the modern teaching standards for a school and sixth form in the 21st century.
"This application seeks to refurbish an existing school building with the aim being to improve the internal environment and to improve the building’s fabric through sensitive and sympathetic repairs."

The scheme is part of a comprehensive plan to transform the whole site, which overlooks the northern end of Stokes Bay.
Run by Gosport and Fareham Multi Academy Trust, Bay House has 2,300 pupils aged 11-18.
During the run-up to D-Day the 79th Armoured Division operated from the site and used the area to test amphibious Sherman tanks.
Troops preparing to take part in the landings sheltered in nearby woodland ahead of the embarkation.
Plans to refurbish Bay House are outlined in a public notice published by Gosport Borough Council, which will decide the application.
