Red Funnel has issued advice to Islanders travelling to watch Take That perform in Southampton tonight (Sunday), after last night's extra Red Jet sailing reached full capacity and led to queues.

As previously reported, many of those heading back to the Island from Saturday's gig, at St Mary's Stadium, were unable to board the last foot passenger boat as it was full.

The 11.45pm sailing had been put on as an extra to accommodate Take That fans.

Passengers' 'anger' was quick to turn to relief though, as Red Funnel staff were able to accommodate them on the midnight car ferry, which departed slightly later.

And cheers greeted news that the floating bridge would be staying on later than usual, allowing those arriving in East Cowes to get back to Cowes.

To avoid a repeat tonight, Red Funnel is reminding passengers of the time of the additional sailing, at 11.45pm.

Aside from that, the firm said it is running its standard Sunday Red Jet service.

"Therefore we advise those travelling to and from the concert to please consider using our vehicle ferry service to avoid disappointment", a spokesperson said.

It is also reminding customers that foot passenger tickets operate on a first come, first served basis.

The spokesperson added: "Times are shown as a guide and for ticketing purposes only – selecting a specific sailing does not guarantee a space".

The County Press asked whether more Red Jet sailings would be put on after last night, but we are yet to receive a response.

As well as Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, the concert also features pop star, Olly Murs, who is supporting the band.
