A thunderstorm warning has been issued for Southampton over the weekend by the Met Office.

Despite glorious sunshine in recent days, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the city, along with much of the west of England, as thunderstorms are set to hit.

The warning comes into affect from midday on Sunday until 10pm.

Residents in Southampton can still enjoy the sun on Saturday as the temperature is expected to reach around 22 degrees.

But Southampton, Romsey, Winchester and Lymington could all be subject to heavy rain on Sunday as the weekend comes to a close.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to some disruption in places, especially to travel. Isolated property flooding is possible.

“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”
