Dozens turned out to pay tribute to a “very kind” grandmother hailed as a “pillar” of the Southampton Sikh community.

During her funeral, her family and friends remembered the times she offered a listening ear to many in the city and was known for her kindness.
She was previously described as a 'matriarch’ of the Sikh community.

Her granddaughter, Rowena Singh told of the memories she will keep of her grandmother.
The 43-year-old said: “She was welcoming, she was very kind.
"She always had time for everybody, and she was a constant, we could come around her in the time of night and day and she would always be sitting on the sofa watching Indian films.
“She always had the ability to calm you down, so if there was anything wrong she brought you to peace.
“She used to cook for us amazing food, and when we came together she always made sure people had food or drink and that people were happy and comfortable.
“She was here for so long; she came from India and raised a family and everyone here in some form is related to her and this is her legacy. “
Avtar Singh, 65, her eldest child, travelled from Glasgow for the funeral.
He said: “When we first moved here from Glasgow, she was going around from place to place and this is where we went to school and everything where my dad worked here.
“We came from India, and first settled in Blackpool, we then moved to Ireland and then to Glasgow before we settled in Southampton.
He added: “All our memories of her are really special. We would come see her for Mother's Day and it used to be a party every day when you came to see her.
“She was always there for advice, she was a very wise woman. A pillar."
The funeral started at her home on Northbrook Road before the casket was taken to the temple Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadar Sahib on St Mark’s Road for prayers.
She was then transported on a horse carriage to Southampton crematorium on Basset Green Road.
