Police in the New Forest have seized an e-scooter after a rider was seen using it over a bridge on the M27.

Officers seized the scooter after the rider was stopped on the bridge that goes over the M27 just before Paultons Park on Sunday, March 31.

The force is now warning e-scooter riders that they need to be fully compliant with the law if they are to be taken on a public road.

This includes not riding e-scooters on pavements, footpaths, cycle lanes and bridle paths or taking privately-owned e-scooters on main roads.

Writing on Facebook on Sunday, a spokesperson for the police said: “Today, PC Mark Roberts, New Forest Heart’s Designated Neighbourhood Officer seized an E scooter after it was seen being used on the main Romsey Road.

"The rider was stopped on the bridge that goes over the M27 just before Paultons Park.

"It is currently illegal to use a privately owned E scooters on a public road without complying with a number of legal requirement or use it in spaces set aside for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.

"This includes on the pavement, footpaths, cycle lanes and bridle ways."
