WINCHESTER Cathedral is increasing the price of its annual passes from the start of April. 

Costs for adults will increase by £1, people over 66 £2, students 50p and groups by £1 per person. 
Under 16s, with family, will remain free.

The annual pass gives access for 12 months from the date of purchase. Entry for worship and prayer is always free of charge.

Winchester Cathedral commercial director John Blake said: “A one-off purchase of an annual pass offers tremendous value for money, enabling visitors, especially local residents, multiple opportunities to return at no additional cost during normal visiting hours. All year round there are free daily guided tours led by the cathedral guides and changing art exhibitions.”

The Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, Dean of Winchester Cathedral, said: “As always, entry to the cathedral for those attending worship and wishing to spend time for quiet contemplation and prayer remains free. The money our visitors give so generously to enter the cathedral is our main source of income. It is used to keep the cathedral open for worshippers and visitors now and in the years to come.”

Winchester Cathedral is an independent charity that receives no regular government funding for its upkeep. 

The new prices come into effect on April 1. They are: adults £13.50, over 66 £12, student £7 and groups £11 per person.
