A Southampton school has been rated ‘requires improvement’ by Ofsted after the regulator completed an inspection of the school.
Weston Secondary School in Southampton had a number of positive aspects highlighted by inspectors. However, the school was told it needed to improve in other areas.
The school was graded as requiring improvement in three major categories - quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and personal development - after the inspection last month.
Despite this, the school’s leadership and management were rated as Good.
Headteacher Andy Papanicolaou said: "Over the coming months and years we will be focused on ensuring that we implement further improvements to the curriculum, along with working with our families to further improve attendance at the school.
"The school is proud that the inspection team recognised our strong ambition for inclusion for all through the provisions we are working hard to put into place - to quote the inspectors, Diversity and tolerance is part of the fabric of the school."
"Most of all, we are delighted that Ofsted were confident that we are on the right path; right for our students and right for our community.
"At Weston, we are passionate about continuing to improve the life chances of our communities."
In the report, inspectors said: “The school has designed a curriculum which is ambitious.
“Expectations for all pupils are high. This includes pupils with SEND and other disadvantaged pupils.
“The majority of pupils are well-mannered and confident.”

Other areas that were highlighted as being favourable include pupils being well supported and knowing they can speak to staff if they need help.
The inspectors said that despite school leaders working hard to put an ambitious curriculum into practice, there is still much work to be done.
The report said: “While many pupils behave well, some do not which can disrupt the learning of others.
“Pupils do not attend school regularly enough and some are not punctual either to school or lessons.
“Not all staff have the knowledge and skills they need to ensure that pupils are all learning what is needed.
“The ambitions of the curriculum are not yet fully met. Not all pupils are achieving as well as they should.
“Leaders are taking appropriate actions but improvements are not yet fully secure. There is too much variability in pupils’ learning across subjects currently.”
The school will be subject to another inspection again in the next two and a half years.
