Videos show extent of flooding in Brambridge after heavy rain

Parts of Highbridge Road, in Colden Common, have been submerged in water after heavy rainfall. Tankers have been parked in the layby by Kiln Lane for months on and off, to pump water and prevent flooding for nearby residents.

But after just one day of no tankers on standby, residents once again woke up to flooded roads and gardens.

Manholes overflowed and drains filled up. Residents were told by Southern Water just after 9am that engineers would be out shortly but it wasn’t until the evening that tankers arrived to combat the excess water.

Cllr Sue Cook, who’s been persistently contacting Southern Water for a long term solution for months, said: “We were abandoned. Eventually after numerous calls and promises of tankers on the way the first tanker arrived at 5.50pm then another two went to the wrong location in Kiln Lane – it was a shambolic fiasco.

“Southern Water has again been asked to sweep the road. Water is 24/7 we need assistance 24/7 not when they feel like it.”
