A planning application has been submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council for an 81-place children’s nursery on the land next to Boorley Park Primary School.
The proposed site is located in the large 700-home housing development of Boorley Green and aims to offer childcare facilities to nursery-age children in the newly built estate.
Construction on the housing development began in January 2022 and many residents have now been living in their new homes for more than a year.
The nursery application was originally submitted to the council in 2019, but was rejected on the grounds of lack of drainage information and ecological surveys.
The operator of the nursery will be Happy Days, which has been operating since 1991 and now manages 21 nurseries across the Southwest.
It currently employs nearly 500 members of staff and looks after almost 2,000 children.
The nursery will have a total of four main activity rooms for play and learning activities, two explorer group rooms and two adventure group rooms.
The new nursery facility will look after children from the ages of three months to two years.
Some residents of the Boorley Green area have started voicing their views on the proposal.
Rebekah Lockyer, of Nairn Road, said she felt that the area is already too congested without the pre-school.
She added: “Nairn Road is already far too busy and that’s without a full school.
“The parents don’t care where or how they park so adding this would make it unbearable for the residents.
“The estate is already like a racetrack so this would just make it 100 times worse.”
Curdridge Parish Council has raised an objection. In a statement, the parish council said it felt that the access road is too narrow to deal with two-way traffic, putting pedestrians accessing these facilities at risk and limiting access for emergency vehicles.
The proposal will be decided by a planning committee on February 5.
