A busy Southampton road was partially closed this morning after a crash involving a fire engine.
The vehicle from Redbridge fire station was involved in a collision shortly before 6am on Memorial roundabout on Winchester Road and Bassett Avenue.
Police were called to the scene and closed the road while the fire engine was being recovered.
The vehicle from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was taken to the service’s workshop where it will be examined, and the circumstances investigated.
A spokesperson for the service apologised for any inconvenience caused by the road closure.
In a statement, they said: “One of our fire engines was involved in a road traffic collision on Bassett Avenue in Southampton, shortly before 6am.
“Fortunately, no other vehicle was involved and there were no injuries suffered.
“The road was partially closed, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“The fire engine will be taken to our workshop to be examined and the circumstances investigated.
“Our vehicle fleet technicians are working to make a reserve fire engine available for the crew to use.”
