ENGLAND Squash will continue its Squash Stars programme, in an attempt to get young people more active.
With the government launching a new sports strategy, facilities across Hampshire are set to host Squash Stars events throughout the remainder of the year.
Venues such as Winchester Racquets and Fitness, Fair Oak Squash Club, Lee-on-Solent Tennis Squash & Fitness Club, and also Whitchurch Longmeadow Squash Club will all deliver the sessions.
The sessions are open to children aged between five and nine, and are taken by expert coaches will help them get to grips with the sport.
Joanna Rowbottom, who is the head of partnerships and programmes at England Squash, said: "Squash is a fantastic sport and a great way to help young people get active.
“The focus at the sessions is very much on having fun, getting active, and making new friends.
"We want all the children who take part to soar in every aspect of their life and that starts with a positive experience with sport."
The government has set a target of getting over one million children more active.
A recent survey by Sport England revealed that 53 per cent of young people are not meeting the recommended amount of at least 60 minutes of activity each day.
Since the programme launched in 2022, it has provided thousands of children with the opportunity to not just learn the sport, but also help them become more active in the process.
Rowbottom added: "Squash Stars is suitable for everyone; it doesn’t matter how much or how little sport, children have done before.
"There are friendly, welcoming clubs and coaches ready to help your child get started and enjoy the benefits of this amazing sport.”
The six-week programme will cost £42 and every child that signs up will be rewarded with a free racquet, t-shirt, ball, kit bag, and goggles.
