Plans for a new classroom at an independent special educational needs school in Southampton have been submitted.

The proposed building would sit on the grounds of the current car park at Yarrow Heights School, an independent school on Cobden Avenue.

The school currently offers a private alternative for pupils with special educational needs aged seven to 16 but is looking to expand provision for ages 16-18.

The building would be constructed off-site in a number of sections and then transported to the school where it will be fully put together to form the complete building.

This would be to reduce construction work at the site, associated traffic and the higher energy-efficient construction methods.

The development would also include a new car park on the sound and east of the site which would provide 54 car parking spaces.

The building would be constructed to a high-quality design using a steel frame for the structure and the single-storey design would provide a large open classroom which would benefit from tall and wide windows to allow sunlight.

The application was validated on August 21 and now awaits a decision by Southampton City Council.
