A COLOSSAL clean-up operation is underway at Boomtown, as the festival comes to an end.

Boomtown: Chapter Two: The Twin Trail came to a close last night (Sunday, August 13), with an impressive final day of headliners including Chase & Status and Sister Sledge.

Now, Monday, August 14, the clean-up operation has begun, as the tens of thousands of festival-goers leave behind evidence of their time at the festival in the form of litter.

This gallery of 37 photos shows the un-glamorous side of Boomtown: the extent of rubbish that will be dealt with in the coming days.

Overflowing bins, thousands of discarded beer cans and parts of gazebos dumped on the ground will all be cleaned away in this mammoth task.

Event organisers had arranged daily clean-up operations throughout the festival, which saw large groups take to the streets of Boomtown to clear away all the rubbish left throughout the day.

Now that the 66,000 festival-goers are on their way out, a larger-scale clean-up can be conducted around the Matterley Estate in the South Down's National Park, where Boomtown takes place.
