A man has been charged with murder after a woman died in a cemetery.

Martin Suter, 66, of Portsmouth Road in Lee-On-The-Solent, has been remanded to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Officers were called to Crofton Cemetery in Stubbington on Monday afternoon following reports a 71-year-old woman had been assaulted.

The victim, who has been named as Ann Blackwood from Lee-On-The-Solent, was treated by officers and ambulance crews but sadly died at the scene.

A police cordon was in place while officers carried out their investigation.
