Hampshire country pub reopens after £1m revamp - Pictures

The Cart and Horses in Kings Worthy has been transformed with a £1m refurbishment.

The new interiors of the 250-year-old Grade II listed building will host up to 130 guests, with cosy snugs, nooks and larger dining areas, in addition to al-fresco dining options in the countryside-inspired gardens.

The pub, in London Road, has ample on site-parking with new electric vehicle charging points.

The Old Coach House has been re-designed as a private dining area for up to 10 guests, complete with its own terrace doors and entrance.

The team has tried to keep the pub’s local history alive, mixing heritage features such as original brickwork, 18th century oak beams and open fireplaces with modern finishes.

A new menu has been developed by executive chef, Ben Silvester, and head chef, Aaron Reay, with daily specials and in-season produce. Guests can enjoy Mediterranean-inspired small plates and sharing boards or pub staples such as the dry-aged steaks and Sunday roasts, served sharing-style with roast potatoes rainbow roots and seasonal greens.

The revamped drinks menu includes more than 45 bottles of sommelier-selected wines, three ale taps, bottled beers, spirits and house cocktails. A selection of non-alcoholic and soft drinks will also be available as well as coffees created in partnership with ethical roasters, Paddy and Scott’s, served daily from 8.30am.

The transformation has created more than 40 new jobs from managerial to front-of-house opportunities, with the new general manager Ben Jones leading the way.

Mr Jones said: “It is so exciting to open the pub doors following what has been a highly anticipated renovation over the last three months.

“To have the support of our local community in the lead-up to opening has been incredible and we can’t wait to see the pub come alive again with everyone enjoying spending quality with friends and family here.

“Each design and guest experience has been considered, so from a quick pint after work, catching up over brunch or big celebrations, we are here to make sure that each occasion feels special for our guests.”

Joining forces with the Paddy and Scott’s team, The Cart and Horses will be hosting two coffee mornings on Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28, offering a free cup of coffee to guests who visit the pub between 8.30am – 11.30am across the two days.

More information on forthcoming events with local creative partners will be released on the website and across socials over the coming weeks.

The Cart and Horses will be open from 8.30am serving brunch through to evening supper and drinks.
