IT'S the crazy Hampshire cocktail bar with a theatrical flourish.

Located on the ground floor of a Grade I listed building in Winchester, Incognito is about as far removed from its previous life as a hospital with a history dating back to the 10th Century as it could possibly be.

The eccentric décor includes a mix of leather Chesterfields, Tiffany lamps and far-flung travel mementos from the adventures of its fictional owner.

And that's not to mention the out of this world creations cooked up behind the bar.

Favourites include The Butterfly Effect, which looks like a green house, and Along for the Ride, served up alongside a Ferris wheel and helter skelter.

Plus there's the hot air balloon themed Great Escape complete with clouds and Rubber Dub Dub, featuring a bath and soap suds, as well, of course, as a rubber duck.

Apparently, it's the in vogue place to go for a proposal. People like to use the cocktails to pop the question in a memorable way, hiding the ring within the smoke before it's revealed at just the right moment.

But every night is memorable, according to assistant manager Caitlin Mills.

She said: "Every visit is an experience, entering a world of pure imagination!

"Generally Incognito is a place that is meant to be found, once discovered we transfer customers from the ordinary into an 'adults wonderland' experience within Chadwick's humble adobe.

"The cocktails come from Mr Chadwick Smithfield, our fictional owner's journeys across the globe, in which he retrieves trinkets and props as well as ingredients to create the cocktails."

Daily Echo:

The idea behind the bar, which opened in May 2018, is a multi-sensual, immersive, cocktail experience that returns customers to a bygone era. They are greeted with chandeliers, candle light and jazz on the grand piano while being seated at their table and given an array of vintage military hats to try on.

Even a trip to the toilet is an experience where you are surrounded by a jungle and can listen to the soothing sounds of Sir David Attenborough narrating the Big Cat Diaries.

Olives, nuts and other nibbles are also served at Incognito in The Broadway, which also has branches in Richmond and Kingston and can at times be fully booked up to eight weeks in advance.
