EXPECT everything from shire horse rides at a pub named after The King to free cake to mark the coronation.
A number of Hampshire pubs are marking the historic occasion with events or special offers.
Here's our pick of some of the best places to be this bank holiday weekend.
The King Charles, Kings Worthy
The King Charles in Kings Worthy near Winchester is holding a family fun day on Saturday to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Sharing a name with the incoming King, the pub’s licensees – Dawn and Darren Anchor – are seizing the opportunity to hold a celebration to remember.
There will be a cake stand run by the local under 11s girls football team, Worthy’s Youth FC, which Dawn and Darren sponsor, towards a defibrillator.
Live music, dance classes for all ages, face painting and a local dog show will all be part of the day’s activities.
Fuller’s horses, Prince and George, will be offering dray rides – plus Alresford Ukelele will be performing in the afternoon. This will all be accompanied by afternoon tea, a barbecue in the evening and plenty of refreshments!
At Hall & Woodhouse pubs in Hampshire
To celebrate the King’s coronation weekend, brewery and pub company Hall & Woodhouse, is introducing a round of royal specials and activities fit for a King at its managed pubs in Hampshire, which include The Plough and Jolly Sailor at Bursledon, The Strawberry Fields Tavern at Locks Heath and The Empress of Blandings and Copythorne.
Themed seasonal menu items and drink will be on offer including special, limited-edition beer, ‘Ale to the King’, a coronation chicken salad, and cherry Eton mess.
They will also be holding a ‘compuptition’ to crown the King and Queen of pub dogs.
Child-friendly craft activities will also be available in pubs for young guests to colour in their own Cawston Press themed crowns to wear and be part of the celebrations.
Walnut Tree Farm
A pub chain will be giving out free cakes to Southampton residents who visit the venue wearing a crown to celebrate the King’s coronation. Farmhouse Inns across the country, including the Walnut Tree Farm at Adanac Park in Nursling, will provide customers with a complimentary slice of cake during the bank holiday weekend.
To get their hands on the limited-edition cake, customers have to visit their local Farmhouse Inns wearing a crown or tiara – in celebration of the momentous occasion – and say the phrase "a royal slice" when ordering a cake at the till.
In return for their efforts, lucky recipients will receive a slice of raspberry and lemonade cake, crafted in-house by Farmhouse Inns’ talented ‘cake-a-tiers’.
To mark the historic weekend, Farmhouse Inn is also launching an online competition to crown a customer the ‘King or Queen of carvery or cake’ – with a £2,000 prize plus a year's supply of free carvery or cake going to one lucky winner.
Other pubs hosting events include The Lapstone at Horton Heath, which is laying on coronation fun with Silly Scott and The New Inn Hounsdown, location of a family fun day with hog roast. bouncy castle and live music.
