You can find a list of all the candidates standing in each ward here.
Here is what the candidates are saying:
David Howarth Chapman – Liberal Democrats
“David lives locally with his family, and his three children are all in a local nursery or Hollybrook School. David has 15 years experience in business and wants to use his knowledge to encourage sound financial management of the council. He is also keen to make sure the council supports local people with the cost of living.”
Ken Darke – Liberal Democrats
“Ken lives on Springford Road and was previously a councillor for Coxford. Ken is passionate about protecting local facilities and services from cuts. When he was on the council he fought hard to protect the community centre, swimming pool, post office and more. He will always stand up for our area.”
Maggie Fricker – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
“As a health worker, I’m angry at the Tory government for their neglect of our NHS – we are underfunded, understaffed and unappreciated. Which is why many of my colleagues have taken strike action. We need to take that fight into our communities to defend services like education and social care which have been cut to the bone by Labour locally. They have chosen to do the dirty work of funding cuts from the same Tory government. We are all struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, now is the time to join the fight back. That’s why we are standing in the City as No Cuts councillors, so no one is cold, no one is hungry, and no one is homeless.”
Diana June Galton – Conservatives
“A former special educational needs teacher, mother, and grandmother; Diana is using this experience as a current councillor, to really ensure we get the best for our children.
Since being elected as a Conservative councillor in Coxford, the only one in more than a decade, she has really delivered for residents – helping hundreds of people regardless of if, or how they vote.
Coxford will be a better place to live, if Diana can continue the local work she’s already started.”
Graham Reginald Galton – Conservatives
“As an experienced councillor, former chair of the licensing committee and a retired gas engineer; Graham has just what is needed to deliver locally for Coxford, Aldermoor, Lordshill and Lordswood.
A face many will have seen out and about with his wife, current Coxford Councillor Diana Galton.
Other political parties make pre-election promises – it’s only local Conservatives who deliver exactly what we promise we will.
Coxford needs more than one local Conservative councillor, to really see positive change.”
Peter Graham Galton – Liberal Democrats
“Peter works at Lordshill Sainsbury’s and was Coxford’s longest serving councillor. He represented you on the council until 2010 and now wants to get back on the council to continue fighting for our area. Peter has a strong record of fighting for local people on the council and will continue to do so.”
Rebecca May McCreanor – Labour
“I moved into the Lordshill area in 2007 and have made a home here. I have enjoyed meeting the residents of Coxford ward while I have been out with Cllr Matt Renyard and seeing what some of the local issues are and how I can fight for residents.”
Paul James Patrick Nolan – Conservatives
“Having lived in the ward for two decades, Paul is a candidate who has a strong connection to the community he wants to serve. Both experiences and conversations have formed his understanding of the issues that affect his neighbours in Aldermoor, Coxford, Lordshill and Lordswood.
He believes that the council should deliver on the basic services that people expect and deserve. He also cares about the safety and well-being of the residents and wants to be their voice and advocate in the council.
He is an honest and straight-talking person who will work hard for the ward.”
Ash Phillips – Greens
“I am born and raised in Southampton, I believe in collaborative solutions to benefit communities as a whole and putting people before profit. Southampton city council is failing in this, and change is desperately needed.
Vote Green on May 4!
– If you want councils held to account
– If you want people to be put before profit
– If you want innovation for the whole of Southampton, not just the city centre
– If you want affordable and sustainable public transport for all
Thanks for your support.”
Matt Renyard – Labour
“Having represented Coxford since 2019, I am proud to have worked with residents on improvements for our communities. As a local resident I know the issues first hand too, and will work hard to make Southampton a safer city.”
Beccy Ruddick – Labour
“I am a supermarket worker and trade union rep for USDAW, and know how to advocate for those I represent. If elected I will work to tackle the issues that working people face, and provide support and practical help for Coxford.”
Ed Surridge – Independent
