Here is what the candidates are saying:
Josh Allen – Labour
“I am standing to be a candidate with a fantastic local team of Yvonne and Andy, and we will be available to you, we will listen, and we will be around to help be your voice on the city council and to help make changes we all want in our community.”
Clara Oswin Asher – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
No comment.
Callum Daniel John Ford – Conservatives
“I was born in the ward on Lydgate Road and have lived in and around the area
my whole life. I am passionate about Thornhill and its community and if elected I will be an advocate for the local area and its people. I am also passionate about how the city council endeavours to ensure the safety, well-being and growth of younger generations.”
Andy Frampton – Labour
“I was born here, and I’ve lived in this area for almost all my life. I care about our neighbourhoods, and I care about the people who live in them. There is so much to do. If elected I can’t wait to get started.”
Yvonne Carole Frampton – Labour
“Only being elected a few months ago I have hit the ground running and I am really glad that I have been able to help so many local people. Helping residents campaigning to improve our area is what we are about. We now have a chance to elect a great team to serve our community.”
Carrie Louise Hingston – Liberal Democrats
No comment.
Matt Jones – Conservatives
“I am deeply rooted in Southampton; generations of my family have called the
city home and I have lived here for over 25 years. As a self-employed joiner running a small local workshop, I meet many people and travel to all parts of the city; I also served on the council from 2008-2012 and have over a decade of experience campaigning to improve our city. My experience has given me a broad view of our many strengths and some of the unique challenges we still need to overcome.”
Matt Magee – Conservatives
“My name is Matt Magee and I have spent all my adult life in Southampton. I live with my wife Charlotte, a primary school teacher in Thornhill and our one-year-old daughter. I was elected to represent Thornhill in 2021 and have enjoyed my time getting to know local residents and working for them. On city-wide issues I have also been very involved with planning policy and decision making. Thornhill is a great part of our city and it has been an honour to represent it. Outside of local politics my other interests include cycling, camping and my local church.”
Michael Charles John Mawle – Greens
“Michael has been a committed party member for over 15 years. Prior to retirement he worked as a solicitor in collaboration with the National Union of Students supporting students around the country and particularly in London.”
Nick McGeorge – Liberal Democrats
No comment.
Ronald Nicholas Meldrum – Greens
“Ron Meldrum believes that the future is green or not at all. It is now imperative that we do things in a different way such that we work with the echo systems of the planet rather than against it. Inaction on climate change by both Labour and the conservatives has set our country backwards. We could by now have been running our entire energy system on carbon neutral processes.
Locally we need to help people out of their polluting cars by providing cheap public transport. Our successful £1 bus petition has been received well and we will keep on pushing to get this enacted. Education plays an important role for the future of our planet and mental well being.”
Haylee Rose Solomons – Liberal Democrats
