Martin Lewis has issued urgent advice to everyone with a mobile phone ahead of price rises in April.
The Money Saving Expert shared five steps everyone should follow to reduce their bills next month.
Talking to viewers of ITV’s Martin Lewis Money Show Live, Mr Lewis said: “On around the beginning of April, many mobile bills are to rise up to a typical 17 per cent.
“Even if you are mid-contract, which is something that should be stopped, even including some of the big ones.”
The first piece of advice Martin gave was to text ‘INFO’ to 85075 on your current mobile phone.
The text is free, he explained, and it allows you to find out if you are out of contract and free to leave.
Martin Lewis also advised everyone to switch to cheap Sim-only deals, which can be found on price comparison websites, while finding a low-price network that uses the same signal as your current network.
02, EE, Vodafone and Three are the main signal providers, with cheaper mobile providers, such as Tesco and GiffGaff, using their signal.
If you text ‘PAC’ to 65075 you can get your PAC code and give that to your new network, requesting that your mobile number be moved across to your new company.
Martin’s final tip was to use a cheap deal available elsewhere as something to haggle with your current mobile provider over.
He said: “When you go to them and that's where you get the better deal, if they say to you 'I'm sorry we will disconnect you, you say 'I just need to check that with my husband, wife or parrot."
