Skygazers in Southampton could be in for a treat after the Northern Lights were seen from as far south as Cornwall yesterday.
The spectacle, also known as Aurora Borealis, can usually be seen only from Scotland, the north of England and North Wales but this time even people in Southampton could be lucky enough to see it.
The Met Office says the lights can be admired throughout the UK "under severe space weather conditions" and yesterday, sightings were reported as far south as Kent and Cornwall.

The weather forecast for this evening for Southampton looks rather cloudy and overcast, according to the Met Office, with highs of just over 7C.
The clouds should clear a little bit between 9pm and 10pm and after 2am.
The Met Office confirmed on Sunday that a "coronal hole high-speed stream" had combined with "a rather fast coronal mass ejection" which led to the Aurora sightings across the UK.
It added that it is likely for it to be visible in parts of the UK again.
