SCORES of extras and film crews have descended on to a car park in Winchester for the filming of a Disney series.

The outdoor part of the car park at the Barfield Park and Ride in Barfield Close, Winchester, was closed on Monday, June 6.

Crew were setting up, including large catering trailers and make-up studios, for the production, rumoured to be Disney's Never Let Me Go.

However, staff at the site were staying tight-lipped about the production.

Filming for the series, which is a spin off from the popular 2010 movie, took place on Monday and Tuesday.

As well as filming in the city, there has been production crews in nearby village Ashley, next to Kings Somborne.

A resident, who is part of the Friends of Ashley Church group, said: "There certainly was filming going on over the weekend, in St Mary's Church. The roads have been closed on and off while they been filming."

The series is being developed by FX, based on the 2010 Searchlight Pictures film.

As reported on website variety.com, Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich, who served as producers on the original film, will executive produce the series.

Never Let Me Go, was based on the Kazuo Ishiguro novel, and was directed by Mark Romanek from a screenplay by Alex Garland. The cast included Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield.

A spokesperson for Winchester City Council said: "We have closed the car park to facilitate a production company who are filming in the area. Barfield Park & Ride will be used as a base for the crew.”

Hampshire has been the backdrop for several previous famous productions, inckluding Downton Abbey, Netflix’s The Crown, Top Gear, Wars of the Roses and Avengers, Age of Ultron.

Film Hampshire is operated by Hampshire County Council and works to promote and encourage filming within the county, supporting local film-makers, festivals and industry related events.

The council has been contacted for comment.
