WILL the weather turn Bonfire Night into a damp squib or will clear skies allow fireworks to be seen in all their glory?

With events happening tonight, Saturday and Sunday the forecast has the power to make or break this weekend’s activities.

Families across the region are wondering whether woolly hats or raincoats will be the optimum wardrobe choice.

Offering their predictions for the big day, the Met Office sheds some light on what to expect.

London & South East England weather forecast

Today should remain largely dry and bright, with some sunny spells, after a cold and frosty start in places.

It may start turning cloudier from the northwest during the morning and it will be a chilly day with light winds and a maximum temperature 10 °C.

It’s a mixed bag over the weekend with Saturday remaining dry and bright on the whole, although feeling breezy. Later on though, wet and windy weather will be sweeping south-eastwards overnight so be prepared for some showers.

These should probably be clearing away early on Sunday though leaving the rest of the day dry enough to enjoy the fireworks.

So, the message is - wrap up warm and keep umbrellas on standby.
