Thousands of football fans were left heartbroken across Southampton as England lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy.
Tension led to heartbreak as the key match went to penalties, with Gareth Southgate's men falling short at the final hurdle.
And in Southampton cheers turned to tears as England's 1-0 lead at half time slipped away from them.
Rather than the jubilant scenes we witnessed in the city on Wednesday, tonight sees a strong police presence and a low mood.
Street pastors are clearing away broken glass from the streets, with people making their way home from bars and pubs.
Lots of @HantsPolice officers out tonight 👍 @dailyecho pic.twitter.com/SqWFBEBypt

The nation was at a standstill for the Three Lions’ biggest match in 55 years and Luke Shaw’s early stunner at a rocking Wembley had fans dreaming that football would be coming home rather than going to Rome.
But Italy wrested control of Sunday’s final and deservedly levelled through Leonardo Bonucci, with the match going to extra-time and on to spot-kicks after it ended 1-1.
Fans still turned out onto the streets to sing the chants which have become so familiar through this tournament.
And a tweet from the England team summed it up: "This has been some journey.
"As a nation, we were united in a belief that we can achieve something special after the hardest of years.
"It wasn't meant to be, but this team is just getting started. They will continue to make you proud, both on and off the pitch."
It's agony here in #southampton penalties 😬 @dailyecho #EURO2020 pic.twitter.com/Q8JovjCjot
